Growth
Head of Growth Test Project
Paid test project for the Head of Growth role. Both candidates get the same brief, the same access and the same deadline.
1. Goal
The person we hire will, within 2–3 months:
- Own all ad spend outside Amazon (Meta, Google, TikTok, Bing and any others)
- Report directly to Koko, so Koko is no longer in agency meetings, messages or emails
- Build and own the Growth section of 1B, the way JP owns Inventory and Koko owns Marketing and Finance
This test shows how each candidate would get there.
2. Format
| Fee | Fixed, paid: $[X] per candidate |
| Effort | About 5–10 hours |
| Deadline | Present 1–2 weeks after the intro Zoom: [date] |
| Presentation | Short call. No long slides needed. |
| Questions | Drop into our Zoom anytime, no booking needed. Office hours 5am–2pm PT. |
3. Steps
Step 1: NDA
- Signed before any access or numbers are shared
- Covers use of AI tools: business or team plan with model training turned off; delete Mirai data after the test
Step 2: Intro Zoom + accesses
- Background on Mirai Clinical, channels, agencies and current spend
- Walkthrough of 1B and the "1B Mirai system building" video
- Accesses granted on the call (see section 5)
Step 3: Present
- Takeover plan and Growth section proposal (see section 4)
- Short demo of how they used AI in the work
4. Deliverables
A. Takeover plan (2–3 months)
- Getting Koko out of the day-to-day: who owns what, meeting cadence, reporting format and timeline
- Agencies: for each agency, whether to keep it, replace it or bring the work in-house, and why (cost vs. value, backed by data)
- Quick wins: what can be improved right now with current resources
- Long-term view (optional): overall direction and expected results
B. Growth section proposal for 1B
- Which pages they would build (for example an agency scorecard, a weekly growth report, or blended ad spend vs. results)
- What each page shows and which data sources it uses
- One sample page built with AI in their own tools (HTML, Claude artifact, Google Sheet) using the read-only data they have
- They do not edit 1B during the test
5. Access during the test
All read-only or analyst roles. Granted per candidate and removed after the presentation.
Platforms
- Shopify, including apps (reports only)
- Amazon (view only, for context; outside the takeover scope)
- Meta Business Manager
- Google Ads
- GA4
- Triple Whale
- Northbeam
- Klaviyo and Postscript
- Post-purchase survey tool
- Intelligems
- TikTok, Bing or other active channels
Agencies
- Contracts, scopes and fees for each agency
- Recent agency reports
- Read access to agency Slack channels or email threads
1B (view only)
- Marketing: Guidelines, Ad Lab, BFCM, Landing pages
- Growth: this page
- Finance: only Sales by channel, Ad spend, LTV : CAC
Not shared during the test: Cash flow, 2027 growth plan, 2027 inventory, P&L, P&L by class, NOI by channel
6. How we compare the two candidates
- Understanding: how well they understand the business from one Zoom plus the data
- Takeover plan: realistic, concrete and actually removes Koko from the day-to-day
- Agency decisions: based on cost vs. value, not opinion
- Quick wins: specific to Mirai, backed by data and doable now
- Independent insight: finds something in the raw platforms that 1B doesn't already show
- Building with AI: quality of the sample page, and whether it would fit 1B's style and structure
- Use of AI: what they pulled, how they checked it, and whether they caught it when the AI was wrong
- Communication: clear enough to hand to someone else to carry out
- Engagement: whether they used office hours, and the quality of their questions
7. After we choose
- Edit access to the Growth section of 1B
- Rebuild the sample page inside 1B, then expand it
- Koko or JP reviews the first pages before they go live
- Start the 2–3 month takeover
- Remove all access for the candidate not chosen
